A Modern Jury’s Finding For The Christ

Letter to Ephesians: A new book on archeological evidence of Jesus’ life rocketed to the top of bestseller lists but what about the mountain of evidence based on His own teachings & prophecies that would compel a jury today to render a verdict finding Jesus “The Christ”?

The Fox News story citing a scholarly book arguing a list of “top ten” recent dig findings proving the Biblical Messiah’s existence was interesting. But it arguably missed the historical reality that Jesus’ “existence” is one of the most documented facts not needing ever more verification, except to the hopelessly naysaying conspiracy aficionados. Instead of defaulting once again to the archeologists let alone clergy on the centuries old issue of Jesus’s Divinity let alone existence, I’d suggest putting a modern jury of His peers in the USA to the test. In doing so, we’d of course have to use a “preponderance of the evidence” acid test, if in civil court; and “proof beyond a reasonable doubt,” if in criminal court. Either way, I’d conclude Jesus would be declared King of Kings.

Begin with the “soft” argument of Jesus’ transformational teachings especially in His Sermon on the Mount as recorded by eyewitness Matthew. Then, of course, there’s the countless number of Jesus’s miracles also testified to by thousands in John’s as well as in Matthew’s Gospels. A modern jury would laugh at the nonbelievers’ standard claim it was Egyptian Magic. His Resurrection & appearance testified to by His early followers would have been some trick. Then, there’s Paul’s testimony about his conversion upon seeing The Christ after spending most of his life persecuting Christians. Consider, too, the foretold destruction of Jerusalem circa CE 70 & “not one stone being left upon another.” The evidence that surely ties the argument all together, however, is Jesus’ promise that His Church would spread world-wide. There’s now over 3.6 billion Christians on Planet Earth. And the crowning evidentiary offering, could be the “Miracle of the Spinning Sun” at Fatima in 1917 & testified to by thousands of once rain-drenched but suddenly completely dried witnesses. Court Clerk: ALL RISE. Judge: What say ye? Jury Foreman: HE HAD RISEN!
