American Dream: From Obama to Mamdani

Letter to Ephesians: Its free stuff mantra is why Socialism wins in some blue cities when history & common sense says the folks voting for it always wind-up losers. NYC’s Mamdani even had Obama praising his Marxist campaign when No. 44’s story proves how out of touch with reality it is.

What? Obama’s now a socialist too? Not so fast Harry Truman. The WSJ’s William McGurn’s recent column quoted reformed socialist Sidney Hook who explained how he had fallen hook, line & sinker into socialism only to later regret it: “I was guilty,” 40 years ago he wrote, “of judging capitalism by its operations & socialism by its hopes & aspirations; capitalism by its works & socialism by its literature. To this day, this error & its disastrous consequences are observable in the judgment & behavior of some impassioned individuals, mostly young.”

Maybe at least count Obama in the ranks of the wishful thinkers after he wisely stopped short of actually endorsing NYC’s Trotsky. Then again, the ex-president recently doubled down on his DEI policies, arguably a cousin to socialist dogma that prioritizes color, race & ethnicity above capitalism’s obsession with merit. Surely Mr. Obama knows his own mercurial rise to the presidency occurred in (and was greased by) the ultimate capitalist system on the face of the earth. As POTUS he surely also knows that by 2020, 45% of all suburban residents in the US were racial minorities consisting of Blacks, Asians & Hispanics. That’s roughly 15 million people who WORKED their way out of the inner-city slums, where excessive welfare has turned good, aspiring people into victims of politicians’ delusional promises. Of course, well-intentioned safety net programs since the 1950s have helped jump start that upward mobility trend. But the biggest stumbling block to even greater gains has been the underlying lie since, that government is responsible for citizens’ lives from cradle to grave; and that it will get the job done by taking from the rich and giving it all to the poor. Of course, the truth has & always will be, the rich get richer and the poor get poorer, so long as the rich (like Obama) keep working and the poor keep believing the Robin Hood story.
