Letter to Romans: A recent crisis story threatening humanity warns younger generation was delaying having kids. Now, we’re told young women are ditching the idea of marriage. Welcome to your parents’ “reality.” Hint: It says “balance” is the secret to a happy life,” not the advice of Disney or Hollywood screne writers ...
Without using today’s lingo, the older generation’s belief in Jesus Christ’s teachings tried to tell today’s youngsters turning into adults about the importance of leading a “balanced life.” That is, how loving God, family & others as well as yourself should be THE priority, and not letting worldly cares, greed for material things or fear itself take control of our lives. But as the Fox News op ed by J.P. De Gance relates: “Once upon a time, little American girls grew up with the simple belief that if you were brave & kind enough, your story would end with ‘happily ever after’ … but new polling from Pew … shows a striking change in how senior girls think about marriage. In 1993, more than 83% of graduating girls said they were very likely to marry. Yet today that share has fallen to about 61%” [while interest among boys remains around 74%.”
So, what’s happened? De Gance focuses on how drastically Hollywood (see "Bridesmaids"), and Disney in particular, has shifted its films from happy endings after tough lives ala “The Little Mermaid” & “Beauty & the Beast.” Now, Disney’s “self-discovering” heroines, e.g., are more like self-absorbed bitches who succeed in the end BECAUSE they’re self-absorbed. De Gance suggests that if parents “care about their [kids’] future & about the future of our society, we need to begin rewriting that ending, not by returning to nostalgia, but by telling the truth that for most of us, a life given and received in lasting love is still the deepest version of happily ever after we are likely to find.” Well, “returning to nostalgia” or not, the TRUTH is Jesus repeatedly urged the same "balanced life" thing 2,000 yrs ago … but, trying to rely on mommy & daddy let alone your own understanding to “get it right” without GOD’s guidance is the real Disney fairy tale.
