Are Homeless Where DC’s Heart Should Be?

Letter to Ephesians: It’s a common Sanctuary City sin. DC officials rant about Trump’s cleanup of dangerous streets & homeless encampments, but are responsible for city’s obscene homeless as well as crime rates while spending gads of taxpayer money on woke “priorities” ...

We heard it before how “violent crime is [supposedly] at a record low,” even though bodies keep dropping like flies here. And, now the city leaders are trying to similarly soft sell how “homelessness is down.” But, neither wash, as a recent Fox News analysis reveals. According to Fox and the Metro Washington Council of Governments, “Roughly 7 residents per 1,000 in the nation’s capital experience homelessness ... which is a rate 7 times higher than the regional rate of 1 per 1,000.” While this homeless rate is down in DC over the last six months, the data shows homelessness is still worse than in 2021 after rising sharply in 2024. In fact, that spike was “the largest year- over-year rise in a decade.”

Yet, the woke leaders in DC are spending millions on “far-left agenda rather than housing the homeless.” For instance, the latest DC budget allocated $40 million “to treat illegal immigrants ‘humanely’” while spending $23 million to renovate the city’s system of homeless shelters. The district’s budget also earmarks $92 million for “Climate Equity Commitments,” $5 million to host the World Pride in 2025 & $1 million for constructing a LGBTQ+ community center.
