Aykroyd’s 2d City Once 2d to None

Not to knock one of my favorite comedian’s “praising life in Canada” while knocking “chaos” in today’s America. His commentary on what’s become of crime-riddled cities like LA, was partly trying to agree with the podcaster’s take. He had assured “The Adam Carolla Show” there are still “pockets” of tranquility. He emphasized he felt lucky to be living the good life on his “peaceful” Canadian farm while agreeing how West Coast cities have descended into squalor next to rich mansions with views of the ocean. He reminded Carolla how the Hollywood rich “try” to help out, but you know … I wonder if Dan were talking today on the Davd Soul podcast (which doesn’t exist), he’d know the key reason why so much squalor exists today side-by-side the rich: Progressive policies started in the 70s (aka the Golden Age of Aykroyd-Belushi- Murray led Second City). Haven’t THEY led to record-breaking crime, generational welfare, college educated boobery, a migration invasion & ultimately the resurfacing of interest in socialism?

Fast backward to Aykroyd’s arrival at 2nd City when Richard J. Daley was the Democratic mayor of the Toddlin’ Town since 1955. Sure, poverty existed next to great wealth then too. But the “law & order” mayor could also brag about the city’s unmatched garbage collection service along with the most beautiful lakefront in the world. Public & private jobs abounded to fuel a massive exodus of inner-city folks to the American Dream in the wealthy suburbs. Upon The Boss’s death in ‘76, an increasingly progressive Chicago regressed until Son of Boss, Richard M. Daley, got elected mayor in 1989. Under fellow DePaul Law graduate’s leadership, The 2nd City’s second Renaissance flourished til 2011, thanks to the same Democratic Common-Sense policies. Then …
