Charlie’s Greatest Legacy Is Faith in Us

Letter to Romans: I’m not gonna waste my breath on the warped people taking to social media lauding the assassination of Charlie Kirk; nor give another thought to fake journalists in the MSM “suggesting” he had it coming because he was so good at making them look like fools. But I will echo, Charlie, your wish to help our country with logic, wisdom & Christ.

As the WSJ editors noted, “The MAGA movement leader was known for inviting debate with opponents.” Indeed, my fellow ex-Chicagoan was so good at it ... and inspiring others to follow his example ... that tributes to his legacy as a rare & desperately needed peacemaker, in spite of the evil naysayers of this world, have been pouring in from around the world. The editors captured well the daunting task only a Charlie Kirk had the love & guts to take on: “[His death] is all the more tragic because Kirk built his movement, Turning Point USA, the old-fashioned way: through political debate. His method was to appear on college campuses and welcome all comers to take him on with questions and opposing points of view. He did this amid the height of cancel culture and the worst of screaming mobs on campus who wanted to shut down conservative speakers.”

The editors also warn how “dangerous” the moment is for America that may be “descending into a cycle of political violence that would be hard to arrest.” Watching Charlie from my poor perch in the clouds, I sense that had he seen the murderer on top of that building ready to shoot, he would have motioned to the assassin with his familiar inviting wave of the hand to come up to the stage to talk about the issues he was so angry about ... as would Jesus of Nazareth.
