In the Middle East both the fighting & diplomacy intensified. Throughout it all, the least conventional & most chaos-loving American president of all time still managed to dominate the world’s headlines.” How’d Trump do it? By pulling TWO RABBITS OUT OF HIS HAT AT THE SAME TIME. First, he gave a wink & nod to Ukraine using its long range missiles deep inside Russia as payback for its outrageous escalation of its outrageous invasion. Then, he pulled out of his suit coat a 20-point game plan for bringing peace to the Middle East that’s so reasonable only crazed Hamas might not accept it, thereby putting the onus on Palestine’s survival entirely on its already reeling head.

As Mead concludes: “Both moves were typical Trump … They changed the narrative, reframing discussions over both Gaza & Ukraine. They emphasized Mr. Trump’s commanding stature by contrasting the effect of his words with the sputtering fickleness of other heads of state. And they didn’t commit him to anything unpleasant or cost him anything serious.” Seriously, what a difference a day can make with Trump calling the shots.
