Ecclesiastes, Leo & Trump Turn, Turn, Turn

Letter to Romans: Blessed are the peacemakers, yet God has used many tools to achieve peace in an evil world. The MSM-fueled “spat” twixt Pope Leo & No. 47 ignores the ex-Chicagoan’s & ex-NYer’s life-long commitment to getting warring people to “make love not war.”

Having been raised during the same Daley-era & in the same South Side Chicago neighborhoods as 70-year-old Leo’s, I can assure His Holiness has Democratic Machine politics embedded in his brain. That’s just Chicago. As he now sits on Peter’s throne, Leo still talks up the stinking White Sox. But, more to the point, shortly before launching his thinly veiled criticism of Trump’s attack on Iran’s terrorist mullahs & their nukes, the Pontiff had an audience with the Machine’s main PR strategist, David Axelrod. What a coincidence. Nor is it a coincidence President Rabbit Ears took offense at being told in so many words that the nuclear “lunatics” in Iran should be given a great big Chicago Teddy Bear hug instead of bombs. The rabid Yankees fan naturally hates nothing more than being preached to by a Chicago Democrat, no matter how powerful on earth or in Heaven.

Yet, cutting through this unholy smoke, a Fox News commentator put his finger on a key point missed (or ignored) by most pols & pundits: Leo & Trump agree war stinks. VP Vance may have said more than he realized in answering a reporter’s Q. He off handedly suggested the Pope stick to moral issues & Caesar keep doing his best to somehow figure out how to deal with the real Great Satan, the one that since 1979 has sworn to wipe the Vatican, Chicago & New York off the face of the earth. So far, that ambition seems stymied while a cease fire holds & more “negotiations” are still possible. Could it be the Holy Spirit is working both men and their respective ways to achieve a lasting peace both passionately desire and the world sorely needs? There is a season, after all, for every purpose under heaven…
