Homan, Trump Put Forth a Deal on ICE

Letter to Romans: ICE leader Homan gave Minneapolis’ self-righteous progressives a “put your money where your mouth is” proposition by offering to pull back on immigration enforcement if the local police honor ICE requests to handover its illegal alien criminals. Well?

The WSJ editorial board not only called Homan’s offer “good” but suggested an ongoing refusal on the part of local officials to go along with it will expose their hypocrisy. Meanwhile, President Trump also posted, “Just give us your criminals,” and the editors asked Governor Walz & Mayor Frey, “How about it?” Indeed. Gov. Walz has insisted the state cops DO cooperate with ICE on that score BUT Mayor Frey and county officials keep doubling down on their naïve “Sanctuary City” policy to REFUSE to cooperate one iota with the feds; in short, Frey makes no bones about making sure that even the most dangerous illegal alien repeat offenders are kept OUT of ICE’s supposedly grubby hands.

As the WSJ concluded: “Most Americans welcome immigrants, but they don’t want criminals in their neighborhoods & Mr. Homan is smart to return to this high ground. Detaining other illegal migrants is ‘never off the table,’ the border czar said, ‘because the US can’t send a message that it’s no big deal to swim the Rio Grande or evade a deportation order.’ But he also seemed to acknowledge that ICE’s sweep through Minneapolis was overbroad … [so] … Why wouldn’t Minnesota Democrats take that [good faith compromise] deal? Unless, that is, they’d rather exploit the tragedies in their cities for political gain.”
