Hong Kong Freedom Gets a Death Sentence

Letter to Romans: China’s kangaroo court not only recently gave Jimmy Lai a death sentence to show who’s the new boss in Hong Kong, it exposed how oppressive that communist country’s Rule of Law invariably is whenever the party’s political power is questioned.

As the WSJ op ed had noted, the 78-yr-old publisher had already served years in solitary confinement for supposed sedition … [but the recent] … sentencing of Lai to 20 years in prison is a profound injustice to the publisher [who will most likely die in confinement] and also marks a symbolic end of an era. It confirms that Hong Kong, which was promised autonomy for 50 years after 1997, is now firmly under the iron boot of Beijing ... [and] … it marks the end of the larger dream that Hong Kong could – under Chinese rule – preserve the freedoms that had transformed it from a barren rock into a beacon of hope and opportunity.”

Yet doesn’t it get tiring how naïve the West & the rest of the world is when it comes to the predictable ephemeral promises made by communist revolutionaries who in reality are hell bent on forcing their idea of utopia on their subjugated subjects?
