How to Fathom Cornell 7’s Unholy Grail?
Letter to Philippians: “A Firestorm Over Rape Allegations [May] Threaten to Engulf Cornell” & local criminal courts, but what about the moral responsibilities of the woman & men being hailed or hated online?
As the WSJ noted, “The Ivy League school & prosecutors in Ithaca, NY, face a surge of criticism over the handling” of the “Cornell 7” case. This week’s Will Cain Show reviewed the widely disputed “facts” that keep dripping out as further amended. As Cain explained, the “victimized” female’s story has apparently again changed significantly as told to school officials, local police & in online correspondence. It’s still not entirely clear the extent to which she at least helped in initiating what became a sex orgy. Also unclear going forward will be the controlling law. Under NY statutes, the female’s alleged help in initiating a sexual encounter would normally be a tough defense to overcome. But she apparently also participated in drug sharing; if so, NY says “consent” to being drugged as alleged is almost equivalent to having subsequent consensual sexual intercourse rather than “rape. Whether the story as told by the female was with combinations of twosomes or threesomes is as much a math issue as liability one. The students’ bizarre tale as told now appears to involve as many as nine men, one or more of whom may have been present but did not “partake” in the alleged assault. The prosecutor who recently reopened a criminal investigation due in part to public pressure, now says some of the emerging “facts,” are “news” to him. So, if ever there was a case for a judge & jury to sort out, this may be it.
Yet, Cain says we may be looking at a societal malaise that’s far deeper than the legal wrangling now playing out. He wondered, don’t the whole bunch in this sordid affair need a morality shower? And don’t we all? Especially since the MSM & online chatter exposes an alarming inability of commentators to distinguish between society’s law & society’s moral norms? The Fox News anchor didn’t ask it, but I will: “In the FIRST PLACE, since when did orgies become even remotely debatable in any sense by normal society?” True, we only need roam the internet to know that laissez-fair sex (which has existed in every generation) has become downright rampant in today’s. But since when did it become discussed as anything but INHUMAN behavior in any sense, in any place, by either gender?
