Letter to Ephesians: Chicago’s Mayor again dusted off the “White Supremacy” cop out to explain city’s public school system collapsing instead of the supreme stupidity of his Democratic Machine running the show for decades. Nor has a low IQ & greedy teachers union helped.
There’s a reason Mayor Brandon Johnson has been labelled by his critics as “The Worst Mayor in America.” One of the biggest critics has been Pastor & Project H.O.O.D. founder Corey Brooks who responded to the Mayor’s latest finger pointing at “institutional racism he inherited” in a Fox News op ed of his own: “The only reason I am doing my Walk Across America is because of the kids who are caught in the cross fire of failing policies, broken education systems and leaders who prioritize everything except their future … Under Mayor Johnson’s watch, we have a city screaming for help, but instead of listening, he’s fixated on ICE raids, shielding illegal immigrants, showing solidarity with Minneapolis and even weighing in on foreign policy in Venezuela … But hold on – the same man who claims [past] sacrifices ‘got us free’ [and a black man like himself elected] is the one who constantly cries about inheriting a ‘White supremacist system’ full of ongoing oppression & racism. Which is it, Mayor? Are we free or are we still subjugated? You can’t have it both ways.”
Even before either Johnson or Brooks were born, I was a student in what was even then a putrid public school system run by cynical Machine politicians & a teachers’ union that seemed forever willing to sell its soul for a pay raise rather than lift a finger to teach their kids the 3 Rs. How many times through the 60s, 70, 80s & beyond did the Sun Times headlines herald “Pay Raises to Raise Our Kids’ Education” only to result in proficiency scores that got mind-bogglingly lower & lower? In my opinion, the city’s leaders think the educational problem is hopeless & have long given up on a real solution. In that sense, Pastor Brooks is right. The Mayor’s (& teachers’ union’s) senseless excuse making, like that of a long line of predecessors in City Hall, has become ritualistic & explains his/their abandonment of a serious solution.
