It Takes a Polish Army to Save Its Villages

Letter to Ephesians: Does anyone see irony in WWII having been triggered over Germany’s blitzkrieg of Poland & Poland’s now doubling the size of its military spending as Russia rattles its saber? So, Poles won’t be West’s patsy again?
It was September 3, 1939 when Hitler’s forces invaded Poland from multiple directions & with its new “lightning War” tactic. The excuses for doing so were ridiculous, of course. Fast forward to September, 2025 and Putin is sending waves of drones, not just over Ukraine, but penetrating Polish skies as if to test the country’s defensive preparedness. The excuses for doing so are even more ridiculous now. Poland’s response today as then? “We are ready.” Well, not so much in 1939. But, by 2025, the Polish learned what total war is like and how to stall if not win it. As the WSJ reported recently, after Poland upped its military spending to 5% of GDP, “Polish troops and US and Dutch forces undertook a series of wargames called ‘Iron Defender.’” Indeed, the paper added, “For more than a decade, Poland has prepared for the worst-case scenario: becoming the front line in a war,” this time, between Russia and the West.”
Perhaps the United States and NATO have also learned the main stumbling block and use of Poland as its fall guy back then: appeasement never works against a bully. The joint war games between the West & Poland is encouraging. Trump in the WH rather than Biden helps greatly too. As it happens, we’re told, No. 47’s attention is now refocusing on the Ukraine mess now that peace in the Middle East is achieved … for now. Yet, the lesson of WW II (as well as in Gaza) remains: Peace can only be won through strength.
