Kennedy & Carson: You Are What U Eat

Letter to Philippians: RFK Jr’s inverted food pyramid prioritizing natural protein rather than processed wholegrain foods wins support from medical assns. Dr. Carson says it doesn’t mean stuff your face with red meat. I say, “An apple a day still keeps the doctor away…”

The WSJ dished recently on how Sec. of Health Kennedy won over his skeptics and overhauled the long-standing federal food guidelines through a serving of behind-the-scenes politicking, a dash of common sense & a pinch of his passionate belief in eating “healthy foods". In fact, revising the guidelines had been in the works well before Kennedy became a bureaucrat in the Trump Administration. So, instead of more accusations that Mr. Kennedy is reprising his anti-vac mantra in the form of an anti-processed food mantra, the medical community boarded his gravy train rather than spit it out.

As the newspaper warned, that doesn’t mean the new guidelines putting meat, dairy & vegetables at the top of the pyramid and whole grain process foods at the bottom isn’t still gathering flies from some resistant doctors & especially from the processed food industry. But as Dr. Ben Carson, USDA’s national advisor on nutrition told Fox in an interview, “you are what you eat … and we started rubbers-stamping these highly processed foods, these quick things. It has not been good for us.” He compared eating right to giving your car the right kind of gasoline to run smoothly. What about those concerned the new guidance might lead folks to eat too much red meat? Fox asked. Carson assured the new guidelines aren’t pushing steak but a healthy daily dose of protein. Milk, eggs & cheese will do the trick, he noted, “as long as you maintain high-performance fuel for your engine.” As for my engine, I recommend the “Back to the Future Diet,” in which the Doc Brown’s De Lorean time machine aka flux capacitor was seen to be fed apples, carrots, celery and tin cans when plutonium was not on the menu.
