Letter to Romans: The 2d ICE shooting of an attacking “peaceful protester”, this time, using a shovel instead of car, triggered still more angry reactions led by a blind gov & mayor. What did St. Paul tell the early Christians being lit as Roman candles? Love ICE as yourself? Exactly.
As expected, the demonstrators keep escalating their attempts to rid Minneapolis of ICE agents enforcing the nation’s immigration laws & who btw have successfully been ridding their city’s streets of hundreds of drug dealers, human traffickers, rapists & murderers. Go figure. In search of some Biblical guidance besides Jesus’ famous advice to “Give Caesar what is Caesar’s,” I turned to Paul’s Letter to the Romans, Chapter 13. Demonstrators beware; Paul’s advice WILL shock you.
Wrote Paul: “Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established … Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted & those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right & he will commend you. For he is God’s servant to do you good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not wear the sword for nothing … Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also because of conscience … This is also why you pay taxes …” Huh? In short, Paul summed up the earthly & eternal law, “respect and honor” those in authority and “love your neighbor as yourself.” Yes, even law enforcing ICE men trying to do their job for you.
