Mr. President: Take Greenland. Please!

Letter to Romans: US saw the strategic importance of Greenland back in 1951 when it built its Thule military base. While arguably a bigger money pit than Seward’s Folly aka purchase of Alaska, the fact China & Russia are drooling over their own piece of the Eskimo Pie speaks volumes.
At least, so opines the WSJ’s Kim Strassel who wrote in “Operation Total Nuuk Submission,” that “Trump has already been offered free rein in Greenland. He should accept victory.” That is, rather than pussy footing around “agitating the whole of the European Continent, weirding out allies and posturing over title like a persnickety real estate agent … Greenland’s geopolitical relevance – for oceanic & space domination, for missile defense, for critical-mineral extraction, for oil & gas – has only grown. Successive US presidents ignored this, as the US slowly dismantled its presence,” to the delight of China & Russia who are busy trying to fill the void.
So, is Greenland to be invaded by the US? Bought? Annexed? Turned into a 51st state? Says Strassel; “Here’s the cool bit: [Regardless, Owner Denmark] has essentially told [Trump] to have at it. Mr. Trump’s maximum pressure campaign – bolstered by threat of annexation – quickly focused minds. The Danes, and Greenland officials, have gone in a remarkably short time from hostility to outreach, promising more investment, more cooperation, more access, more deals. They’ve already announced an expanded ‘military presence in and around Greenland’ that involves aircraft, vessels & soldiers, including from NATO allies.” In most recent talks with VP Vance & Sec. of State Rubio, “the Europeans offered the US just about everything it wanted short of ownership.” Such a deal then? Recall the real estate Golden Rule: “Location, Location, Location is everything.”
