Newsom’s Small Thorn in Trump’s Side

Letter to Romans: Ca Gov & 2028 POTUS hopeful is now headed to Germany to troll Trump? He’ll be humored by the Krauts in same way the ignored him at Davos. Trump needn’t worry since even Lincoln was able to stuff his pain in the butt Copperhead Vallandigham…

The Germans aren’t stupid and know where their bread is buttered right now and the brand is “No. 47.” Yes, they’ll break bread with Gavin Newsom in the off chance he will one day be able to become the USA’s commander in chief. But that possibility is a LONG three years off and it's Trump obviously calling all the shots that matter for now.

So, what does this have to do with Lincoln & the Democrat Vallandigham who never stopped criticizing (and undermining) the Union’s Civil War effort and relentlessly lobbied for letting the Rebel states keep their slaves? Lincoln didn’t throw the provocative jerk in jail like he probably could have as a war time necessity … nor would he have even posted mocking memes of his political enemy as Trump is now doing to Newsom. Rather, he gave Vallandigham enough rope to hang himself with own words & actions. When the anti-war Democrat literally started establishing relationships with the Confederacy’s leaders, Lincoln looked the other way when his generals saw what was going on arrested Vallandigham, convicted and sentenced him to a long jail term. The Democrats of course wailed mightily that their favored man was being railroaded for simply exercising his right to Free Speech. But, to void making this pain in the butt a martyr or overriding his generals, Lincoln diplomatically “stepped in” and commuted the punishment to exile in the slave holding states. The magnificent gesture turned Lincoln into another Biblical Abraham and Vallandigham into a laughingstock. Would President Trump do well to follow Lincoln’s lead when dealing with the pesky Newsom in the future?
