Letter to Philippians: Let’s concede we live in a cynical world but remember it’s no more so than the one in which Apostle Paul was imprisoned by Rome until his brutal end. Like Paul’s inspiring letter to folks in Philippi & Europe’s 1st Christian Church, may we dedicate 2026 to a positive view of life.
Maybe that PMA resolution for the New Year is harder to execute than us cynics would like to admit. Yet, if Jesus’ own assurance that “nothing is impossible with God” is to be believed by even the greatest cynic (think Apostle Thomas), then, living life in constant gratitude with the Grace of God in our hearts isn’t such a stretch after all. Truly, we have ample examples of how the Father regularly turns hopelessness into the greatest hope … the establishment of Jesus’ Church on earth not the least powerful. Paul’s conversion … and execution at the hands of the pagan Romans is another. And, so on.
As Paul wrote to the Philippians nearly 2,000 years ago from a prison cell: “Now I want you to now brothers, that what has happened to me has really served to advance the Gospel. As a result, it has become clear throughout the whole palace guard and to everyone else that I am in chains for Christ. Because of my chains, most of the brothers in the Lord have been encouraged to speak the word of God more courageously and fearlessly.” Verily, Paul. Nothing is impossible with God. Even PMA in our cynical world.
