The GOP’s ObamaCare Crossroad

Letter to Ephesians: GOP is reportedly at a “ObamaCare” crossroads should it cave to Democrat demand to extend Covid-era subsidies to lower middle class folks. If it does, “it will own the Affordable Care Act fiasco.”
So, at least, opines WSJ columnist Kimberly Strassel. She writes: “When the smog clears from this first gov’t shutdown in seven years, there will be ownership. Either a chastened Democratic Party will own the embarrassment of a foolhardy closure or an outfoxed Republican Party will own the 15-year-old unreformed calamity known as ObamaCare. VP JD Vance began well enough [early], characterizing Democrats’ demands to keep gov’t running as ‘preposterous’ & ‘ridiculous.’ Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer wants $400 billion to make permanent enhanced ObamaCare subsidies for higher-income Americans, which were ‘temporarily’ enacted during the Covid pandemic. This should be ludicrous to Republicans, who have already passed a bill to keep gov’t open and who were elected to fix a struggling health care system.”
Well, guess what? After 3 days of shutdown, Strassel’s WSJ is already reporting the White House is considering “compromising” on this point, perhaps in return for an end to free Medicaid/Obama/Care to illegal aliens and/or noncitizen asylum seekers who, btw, should not be getting taxpayer subsidies, regardless. Don’t do it, Mr. President, is this humble observer’s advice.
