TRANSition: Biology Will Reign in LA28 Olympics

Letter to Romans: Since the “slightest” physical advantage can make difference in medaling, IOC announced it would ensure only females will compete in its women’s 2028 Olympiad. What about the 900 gals already gypped in various sporting events worldwide?

The down and the dirty: Fox News reports the IOC’s new “only biological females are eligible to compete policy” will use genetic testing, a one-time SRY gene screening. The announcement says: “Evidence-based & expert-informed, the policy – applicable for the LA28 Olympic Games onwards- protects fairness, safety & integrity in the female category.” The testing will be done via saliva, cheek swab or blood sample, Fox noted. The IOC said a panel of experts helped craft the new policy and opined it was developed because it is now “universally accepted that providing for a female category is NECESSARY to allow both males and females equal access to elite sport.” IOC President Kristy Coventry explained, “at the Olympic Games, even the smallest margins can be the difference between victory and defeat … in addition, in some sports it would simply not be safe.”

On the other hand, there’s no indication from any source whether there will be anything done .. or can be done … to undo tainted medal outcomes in the past; even though a World Athletics panel in Tokyo in September revealed that “t\50 to 60 athletes with male biological advantages have been finalists in the female category at global and continental championships since 2000. Moreover, last October, the United Nations said, “nearly 900 biological females have fallen short of the podium because they were beaten by trans athletes.” As an updated cigarette commercial might ask, “Why did it take so long to come this far, baby?
