Trump’s Tariffs Tantrum A Hockey Puck?

Letter to Ephesians: WSJ corrected Prophet Trump on St. Reagan’s “Sermon on the Mount” aka Free Trade vs Tariffs Speech. The Gipper WAS generally against tariffs. So, isn’t No. 47’s blow up with the Canucks over “that anti-protectionism ad” quoting Reagan more about today’s negotiation tactics than history?

How soon the paper’s editorial board seems to forget how Trump’s hard ball aka carrot and stick negotiation style often jumps on almost any pretext to gain leverage against an opponent. Not that the editors weren’t right in reminding in their op ed titled, “Reagan vs. Trump on Tariffs,” that “The Gipper was a free trader, no matter what the current President says.” They give us and Mr. Trump a history lesson about the now infamous Ontario government’s ad running clips of Reagan’s 1987 remarks warning Congress about the dangers of protectionism” wasn’t “FAKE” as alleged and even if it was “taken out of context,” it’s hardly going to “influence” the U.S. Supreme Court now weighing the Constitutionality of Trump’s presidential tariff powers.

Perhaps, then, the real insight behind the news of Trump imposing new sanctions against the Canadians is that he & his negotiators are either growing impatient with the ongoing trade talks now dragging on or a last second attempt to gain more concessions as those talks are about to be culminated? If so, might the latest tariff sanctions be more of a slap shot from outside the blue line trying to score a goal just before time expired? Just wondering.
