Trump & Zelensky (P)Kissed Off EU at Davos?

Letter to Romans: At Davos, Trump bitch-slapped Europe like a sissy-hating Prussian war lord while Zelensky called out its naivete in dealing with Putin’s invading Russia. BOTH insisted they love “La Belle Europe” but talked like they hate saving the damsel from herself.

That one-two punch is my take on Walter Mead’s insightful WSJ op ed titled, “Zelensky & Trump Expose Europe’s Weakness.” The US President predictably enraged the allies’ nationalists over his campaign to finally secure the ice bucket called Greenland from Russian (& Chinese) designs … but didn’t mind being a “scapegoat” because it’s the real estate magnate’s idea of winning by using total psychological warfare. Meanwhile, the Ukraine president was the more articulate tell it like it is messenger when he told the Davos crowd how weak they really are: “Europe loves to discuss the future,” he said, “but avoids taking action today” in defending itself against its domestic as well as foreign enemies. “That’s the problem.”

It takes a European to know Europeans. Explained Zelensky: “There are endless internal arguments & things left unsaid that stop Europe from uniting & speaking honestly enough to find real solutions. Instead of becoming a truly global power, Europe remains a beautiful but fragmented kaleidoscope of small & middle powers. Instead of taking the lead in defending freedoms worldwide, especially when America’s focus shifts elsewhere, Europe looks lost, trying to convince the US president to change. But he will not change … He will not listen to this kind of Europe.” And what would Trump listen to? A United States of Europe with enough guts & common sense to join him in telling Putin & Xi “kiss my veiner schnitzel in Greenland”?
