Finally a big city mayor, NY’s Eric Adams, says he won’t “surrender” to radicals at BLM, looters or rioting anarchists: “Not in my city,” the black mayor elect warned while promising a return to a safe Big Apple.
Mr. Adams, an ex-police captain, was recently elected as a Democrat in the overwhelmingly blue city to replace termed-out Mayor Bill de Blasio, whose progressive criminal justice policies on steroids helped give the city a rampant crime wave. Alarmed & fed up, New Yorkers chose Mr. Adams for a reason. “We’re not going to surrender to those who are saying ‘We’re going to burn down New York,’” he said at a recent Harvard Club event. Fox News noted the message “seemed squarely aimed at Hawk Newsome, a local leader of the Black Lives Matter movement who [previously had] threatened ‘riots,’ ‘fire’ & ‘bloodshed’ if Adams tried to revive past anti-crime practices that were discarded during the de Blasio years” including re-instituting a plain clothes force & maybe even stop & frisk tactics that pass constitutional muster. The "rogue BLM boss" ( NY Post's words) says his fighting words were poetic expressions of "potential outcomes" independent of organized leadership aka himself if the city government puts police boots aka plain clothes cops on the ground.
Yet, Mr. Adams also seemed to give fair warning to professional activists-turned-violent rioters (recall the post-Rittenhouse verdict violence, the Post says) as well as garden variety looters (think current wave of smash & grab looting across America), especially those outsiders invading the Big Apple with an eye towards mayhem: “We’re not going to have a city where anarchists come from outside & go into a community such as Queens & destroy [it] for their own selfish needs & desires,” Adams added & concluded: “I burn candles & say prayers & Hail Marys that those other characters [I defeated in the Dem primaries & general election] were not elected … people who were talking about disarming police, running out business people from our city.” Adams takes office on New Years Day.
