Burn, Baby Burn to Stop a World on Fire?

The American Energy Institute & other critics had long demanded the NAS remove its arguably alarmist climate chapter since “Federal judges rely on the manual to decide cases.” Fox News’ legal reporter Carrie Severino opined, “Good riddance to this overtly biased climate science chapter … If the National Academies truly care about being an objective entity, it will ensure that this is an independent review. I’ll believe it when I see it.” But Severino had barely blinked when the progressive PR machine in both academia & the media started posting graphic scenes of disastrous wildfires across the globe with headlines suggesting if not shouting how climate change was the culprit. Then came the WSJ, which published a cautionary op ed titled, “Despite What You’ve Heard, the World Isn’t on Fire.”

As it turns out, we’re finally told, “That Canadian smoke wasn’t pretty, but it was an outlier. Less land is burning than ever before.” Contrary to the MSM reporting on wildfires in Canada, US, Asia, Europe & Africa blaming climate change, government statistics paint a very different picture. In fact, “Every continent on the globe is burning less – some much less – than usual. As of Aug. 5, Oceania has burned 14% less than its 2012-25 average & Europe has burned 35% less. Asia has a near-record low of burned area since 2012, clocking in at 41% below average. Africa is at a record low, with current burn at 44% below average.” Meanwhile, the US this year remains 20% below its 10-yr average. The culprit? Always a matter of debate in any given scenario. But, as one critic told Fox News, the instances of uncontrolled burns are too often traceable to naïve progressive green policies that refuse to acknowledge the effectiveness of CONTROLLED burns so tinder doesn’t pile up to be waiting for a match or lightening to ignite.
