The 1952’s “The Women Shall Conquer” was not only an ode to women via Mother Mary’s ongoing presence on earth, but in today’s Easter, a celebration of women for their faithful presence at Jesus’ Crucifixion & Resurrection.

The Gospels, of course, tell us how “some women were watching” Jesus’ murder “from a distance” and how the brave group of females included Mother Mary, Mary Magadalene & Mary the mother of James the younger. Only Apostle John comforted Jesus’ Mother, although perhaps Peter and a few other of his closest male followers could also see Him hanging on the hill of Golgotha from a “safe” distance beyond.

Lest we forget, it was “many other women who had come up with Jesus from Galilee”, some of whom were wealthy & used that wealth to help fund His mission on earth. Afterwards, it was Mary of Magdala to whom Jesus first appeared upon emerging from the tomb and, of course, Jesus’ Mother was presence at the seminal “Pentecost”, in which He gifted us the Holy Spirit to help us be worthy of His promises of eternal life. As author Don Sharkey reminded us in great detail, Mary also went on to help guide us … at Lourdes, at Fatima, at so many other places, in so many other ways. Hail Mary, it’s why so many generations “call You Blessed”.
