Is NY AG Pursuing “Vendetta Justice” Against Trump?

Imagine a GOP AG going after Joe Biden in a fishing expedition, even after leaving the WH, for rumored illegal benefits from the Delaware corporate mafia, then, think the NY AG’s 4-yr “inquisition” of the Trump family’s financial affairs that just extended to Ivanka & Donald Jr.

As the WSJ editorial board warned, the Empire State’s “AG Letitia James better have good justification” for her never-ending investigation of Mr. Trump, his organization & more recently his children because it smacks of Russia-like “politicized justice” if not “political vendetta.” In this case, Ms. James has been beating the same anti-Trump horse since elected in 2018 and more recently has subpoenaed the kids to (again) help decide whether Mr. Trump or others “improperly inflated the value of assets on annual financial statements in order to secure loans & obtain economic or tax benefits” before No. 45 became POTUS. Never mind that son Eric Trump was deposed by James in 2020 & Mr. Trump has “produced over 8 million pages of documents in response to [James’] subpoenas since 2019. Still, nada even a civil fraud charge on the rumor mill’s horizon.

Mr. Trump’s lawsuit seeking to quash the latest prosecutorial harassment tactic notes how Ms. James’ “2018 campaign to be NY’s top legal officer was dominated by political attacks on Mr. Trump,” including promises to “investigate anyone in [Trump’s] orbit.” It’s true a parallel investigation by the Manhattan DA has indicted the Trump Org & a former CFO for allegedly concealing executive compensation. But, that pending case is PENDING & would usually be dealt with, even if the charges are proven true, with a fine. As the WSJ concluded, “unless Ms. James has the goods & can prove them unambiguously, her investigation looks like more evidence of the decline of America’s rule of law.”
