Jackson, Hollywood & Justice Slept Here?

Letter to Romans: As Fats Domino might say, “Ain’t It a Shame” if Michael Jackson’s movie biop “Blinds Us From the Truth” while a jury didn’t convict the great performer for his alleged abuse of many minor victims? Can money really talk louder than lawyers or evidence?

In her WSJ article, Maureen Orth insists, “I covered the Michael Jackson saga for over a decade,” but his “celebrity is so blinding, his music so compelling, that it cloaks him with an almost impenetrable shield from the truth: He was a stone-cold pedophile.” She goes on to claim how “over 12 yrs … I investigated & chronicled accusations of Jackson’s serial pedophilia … in 5 major articles for Vanity Fair … He was never criminally convicted, while he & his estate have paid $43.5 million in settlements to the families of children who accused him of abuse. And now, in a movie that is supposedly an examination of his life, it isn’t even a footnote.” In fact, Jackson was charged with multiple felony counts for allegedly abusing a 13-yr-old boy via “lewd acts” & feeding him booze. But a Santa Barbara jury exonerated Jackson on all counts. Earlier allegations involving another minor ended in a civil settlement. Jackson had admitted sleeping with minor boys but never engaging in sex with them.

Apparently, after 3 decades, this Neverland travesty is still not ready to be put to bed. Blame greedy Hollywood, which came out with this popular biop that has fans literally dancing in the aisles while Jackson’s double lip syncs on screen, but washes over the sordid history it’s supposed to portray. Not that those massive civil settlements are “proof” of criminal guilt. Accusers coming out against rich targets are certainly nothing new. Nor is it a persuasive (if tiring) argument that Jackson’s slick, high priced lawyers “got him off” with some form of magic. Didn’t Macaulay Culkin swear Michael never did anything “inappropriate” while home alone with HIM?
