Congress thinks DC “Commanders” might have broken financial laws with 2 sets of books that short-changed season ticket holders & visiting teams by millions, but real crime may be in stinko play on field while charging up to $60 to park.
In a letter to the FTC, the US House Oversight Cte alleged that’s how the football team “failed to refund security deposits, concealed revenue.” ESPN reports “the 20-page letter detailed” a whistle-blower’s complaint the committee said “was a multi-year process of altering records to hide revenue that led to more profits for the organization.” The guess is that one set of books were shown to the NFL & opponents while owner Dan Snyder was shown another. “Quite frankly, as you go through the allegations it reads like a description of some organization out of ‘The Godfather’ and not an NFL football team,” said Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi, an Illinois Democrat who should know something about corruption in Capone’s Sweet Home Chicago.
The team is still reeling from harassment allegations and the butchering of the team’s name from “Redskins” to “Washington Football Team” to (this year) “Commanders”. As always, it categorically denies the charges and promises to be fully vindicated. And, team officials insist the Super Bowl is in their sights.
