Joy Reid's tanking MSNBC viewership makes her the poster child for what juvenile journalism can do to ratings & shows there’s only so many angry, deluded people in America. Bad news is, MSNBC “doesn’t care”(ala those Shingles commercials).
Fox News, of course, was happy to publish the ugly ratings news as “poor viewership didn’t stop the MSNBC host from making headlines with outlandish comments.” How bad were the latest ratings? Joy(less) “shed 51% of her debut audience from 2020” thanks to her “lowest-rated month ever.” How outlandish has her commentary been? She’s told us conservatives on Twitter want to be able to “punch people in the face” & laugh about it. She claimed Black children associated with a retired NFL player’s foundation were “child abuse” patsies for being pictured with the Florida governor during the signing of the state’s ban on CRT curriculum. She’s even suggested the court-ordered end to mask mandates was letting “a-holes win,” AND she’s scolded people who ask her to define what a woman is. Hear the one about how Republicans are somehow appealing to its pro-rape and pro-child marriage base on the theory they really want to reach the “most prurient fears of white Christian parent.
We could go on about how the GOP states are trying to “ban” the teaching of slavery. The ugliness of Reid’s commentary is perhaps without precedent. And, while her sinking viewership is surely attributable to her stinking verbiage, MSNBC must still smell the stench emanating from some fringe audience to put up with this silliness.
