Penny 4 Congress’s Thoughts Worth SAVEing?

First things first. As Fox News eminded us, “in addition to blocking the Treasury from minting any more pennies save for collector coins,” a new bill “would also set up a framework for cash transactions to be rounded to the nearest 5 cents, in order to eliminate the need for pennies altogether.” Great. I guess I can toss my own preference that Congress bring back the “half penny” so I can properly tip those baristas who give me crappy service. Arguably more important, but little covered in the MSM, was what the impact will be, if any, of Sen. McConnell’s long-awaited return to Congress after falling on his head. Anyone care to opine whether his concussed brain will finally change his negative vote on the SAVE Act so it has a better chance of enactment?

Don’t count on it if the Senate votes on the current SAVE proposal without substantial alteration. Recall that in June, McConnell voted with Democrats & 3 GOP Senators to block Lindsay Graham’s proposal to attach the SAVE America Act to an immigration funding package. The vote thereby failed to pass by a 48-50 margin. While a still wobbly Mitch has yet to mumble ala Joe whether he’ll change his key vote to “yes,” he had refused to support it by arguing the Act as is may be constitutionally problematic, while using a dodge of the Senate filibuster to get passed offends his institutional instincts. So, who’s Trump gonna call? A “Mitch Buster” aka one of the other GOP “no votes”?
