Rubio to ICC: Kiss America’s Coattails

Letter to Romans: Marco Rubio’s put down of the International Criminal Court’s claims of jurisdiction over Americans nails the ploy for what it is: A hostile takeover by deluded globalists & wanna-bees. As if the US should ever cede its sovereignty to a band of foreigners.

The latest salvo started with the Secretary of State’s public declaration titled, “Why We’re Dismantling the International Criminal Court.” The manifesto's promising a Biblical "brick-by-brick" demise came in response to the ICC’s increasingly bombastic demands that it reign supreme over all nations with a standing world tribunal that would decide what passes for “International Law.” Rubio explained, “America never agreed to a world tribunal that can override our own courts & Constitution.” He asked us to imagine “a world in which US soldiers, police officers, Border Patrol agents & elected leaders could be dragged before an international court, tried by judges from random countries across the globe, found guilty under international laws we neither consent to nor control & imprisoned thousands of miles from America.”

Mr. Rubio notes Americans have a habit of heeding the lessons of history & can judge for themselves what happens when foreigners try to preach about right from wrong. Start with the Declaration of Independence then fast forward to the aftermath of two world wars that definitely were NOT started by the USA. As the SoS recalls, “The ICC was born at the turn of the century. At first, it was marketed as a narrow backstop to prosecute the gravest crimes.” But its true designs soon became apparent in the ICC’s vague founding charter that President Clinton wisely rejected. Congress smelled a rat, too, when the Senate passed the American Servicemembers’ Protection Act to prevent the ICC from arresting Americans. The worst fears were realized in 2020 when the ICC announced it was investigating US “war crimes” in Afghanistan. These demands were followed by similar ones over US deportations of violent criminals, military strikes against narco-terrorists & most recently its war with the Islamic Republic of Iran. Concluded Rubio: “But this is America. Our forefathers fought a revolution against a foreign power ‘transporting us beyond Seas to be tried for pretended offences.’ Independence is our birthright. We don’t intend to trade it for rule by a self-appointed priesthood of ‘international law.’”
