So Rittenhouse Goes To Texas To Fix Broken Border?

WSJ reports how “In a Texas Border Town, Armed Groups Arrive to Look for Migrants.” Call it the “Rittenhouse Effect” when government fails so miserably in enforcing the law? In this case, a new “Texas law allows migrants to be arrested by private individuals for trespassing” & many officials “welcome” the help. Anyone see a federal open border problem here?

The dilemma was illustrated as follows: “As this [Brackettville] South Texas boarder county has seen a jump in illegal border crossings, Sheriff Brad Coe is cooperating with groups of armed private citizens to help patrol the border & arrest migrants for trespassing … The Kinney County sheriff has been in regular contact … with a group of men donning body armor & rifles while patrolling to look for migrants. Another armed group offered use of a high-tech drone & went on a patrol along with the sheriff.”

Of course, many state authorities have resisted such privateers, “saying they are concerned about armed civilians trying to act as law enforcement.” This week, the ACLU & 9 other organizations filed a complaint with DOJ asking for an investigation of local authorities giving “tacit or open” support to such private groups. As the WSJ concluded, “It isn’t clear how many migrants the private groups have stopped or arrested. Yet, the illegal crossings have become so rampant in the face of the Administration’s thinly-veiled open border policy that this summer Gov. Greg Abbott declared the border situation a “disaster”, a classification usually used to describe the carnage of hurricanes or tornadoes.
