Trump’s Iranian Agony & Ecstasy Moment

Letter to Romans: Dr. Trump now sees saber rattling Iran as a “cancer” that needs to be cut out of the body politic, but will he champion the righteous cause like shepherd David who volunteered to slay a loudmouth Goliath, assuring his king he ate “lions & bears” for breakfast?
The Fox News opinion piece recently asked the Q about whether, after an MOU & ceasefire seems to have ended, US policy vis a vis the Islamic Republic is now one of “regime change.” Deal maker Trump now concedes, “I got to know the Iranians … they are liars, cheaters.” Ah, you can ask such bores to leave but will they go? On the South Side of Chicago where I grew up & as coined by the late great columnist Mike Royko, such folks have “crotch kicker” embedded in their DNA & only understand an Adidas to the groin. But how confident is No. 47 he, too, can pull a David & evict Iran’s current & hopelessly stubborn regime?
Recall, it was the much younger David who said to Israel’s King Saul when asked if he really could take on Goliath: Whenever lions or bears snatched one of my rams … or “threatened me, I would catch them by the throat & strangle them. Lion or bear … I would slay them.” (1 Samuel 17:34-37) Based on that Biblical passage, Irving Stone in “The Agony & the Ecstasy” had Michelangelo deciding how to depict David in his 17-foot marble statue as a tested warrior. He noted, “What was Goliath to a young man who had mixed with lions & bears & beaten them in fair battle?” Well, Mr. Trump has already shown he has the will to use the mighty US military like David’s slingshot to handily defeat a terrorizing Iran on the field of battle. However, the Q he himself often alludes to still remains: Will he, like David, “just finish the job”?
