Clancy’s Reddington Schooled by The Practice

Letter to Romans: The Practice tv law firm got a jury to exonerate a client of murder after delivering a decapitated woman’s head to police BUT “psychotic” Lindsay Clancy’s mouthpiece Reddington couldn’t get her the same free card after strangling her 3 kids?

So, what was the secret sauce Reddington lacked? He’s thrown everything in the book at the 12 Clancy jurors. That is, to get the required UNANIMOUS verdict of not guilty by reason of insanity. Included were a team of sympathetic shrinks & a public thrashing of the lone holdout juror while deliberations were going on. We subsequently learned many of the jurors were progressives & at least some appeared to have ignored the law from the get go to instead pursue a “cause” to somehow make things “better for women in the future.” But, instead of being embarrassed by such a brazen jury nullification of the Rule of Law, Reddington continues his crusade against the lone holdout, Michael Desronvil, who resisted the tyranny of the majority. Instead, as George Washington U Law Prof. Jonathan Turley opined: “Defense attorney Kevin Reddington [now] appears to be moving from zealous advocacy to virtual stalking in the Clancy case. Reddington is [asking the court to order for his review] phone records, surveillance & criminal records” of Desronvil … Why impo? Says Turley, “It sends a disturbing message to future jurors … that anonymity means nothing when you stand against the will of the majority. Twelve Angry Men would have been a bit less inspiring if Henry Fonda were hauled first before the public & then the Court for his refusal to convict.”

As The Practice’s leader Bobby Donnell often reminded his partners, it’s usually best to keep the obvious explanations simple for the jury. In The Practice’s “head in a bag” case, the defense “rolled the dice” in having the accused client testify convincingly on his own behalf. In Clancy, the accused “played it safe” & did not. Maybe we don’t overthink this headscratcher either. Maybe sour grapes Reddington just isn't as clever as he thinks he is. He’s surely no Bobby Donnell.
