Get Rid of the Pot, Get High on Life?

Letter to Philippians: So, Baby Boomers are also now smoking more and their neighbors are fuming? I, too, am heartily tired of those needing a drink or weed to get high again on life. Stop the “stinking thinking,” already. Do what I did. Rediscover or find your Soulmate …

But before you do, consider how ridiculously boring life seems to have gotten even for my fellow Boomers who were supposed to be the “optimistic” generation following in the path of the “Greatest” one. As the WSJ article noted: The “cannabis critics” next door are also complaining about feeling “trapped in a haze of frustration … It’s leading to legal threats, cop calls and arguments straight out of high school.” In fact, we’re told, “Tensions are rising as the scent perfumes senior centers and retirement communities. Some elderly adults blame secondhand pot smoke for a host of medical problems, form depression to headaches to breathing issues. Tjere are social pressures, too, with a number of baby boomers saying their peers make them feel like narcs and nerds if they complain.” Well, they are and they do.

As the WSJ notes, seniors are among the fastest-growing demographics for marijuana use in the US, “taking the drug to manage pain, fall asleep and have fun.” The cannabis industry has taken note, shifting its advertising with targeted brands such as “Senior Moments.” And a Cannabis Media Council campaign shows an elderly couple in slinky sleepwear grinning next to the words: “Can cannabis help a senior in the sack? Good news, Tiger!” Yet, “it’s not all bliss” as cannabis critics are trapped in a “haze of frustration.” “Everyone sides with the marijuana smokers,” observed one 50-year-old female, including the police she’s called with complaints of offending neighbors. “The cops talk to me like I’m the nuisance.” Many say their concerns are likewise giddily laughed at by pot smoking advocates, including shrinks & doctors. Meanwhile the medical establishment is increasingly split on the safety and supposed benefits of cannabis as more research is suggesting more harm than good can come of it. My suggestion: Lawyer up. Then find real peace & meaning in what life remains in you … with a  mate who gets high on YOU.
