Should the Waltons Sue ND’s Coach Freeman?
Letter to Romans: There ought a be a law against a football coach who keeps losing by NOT maxing his best running threats against ranked opponents. Take the Irish’s last second losses to Miami & BYU. For the LOVE of God where was Jonaz WALTON this time?
You’ll recall the outrage heaped on Notre Dame head Coach Marcus Freeman last year when his heralded running back Jeremiah Love was given the ball only a dozen times, much to the relief of Miami’s defense. The final score, 27-24. Fast forward to last Saturday’s long-awaiting game with BYU. How many times did the hype remind everyone that freshman Irish running back Jonaz Walton was its leading rusher? That, despite being played less than 30% the time & sharing playing time with two other RBs? Those teammates are good. Yet how many times were we shown by the media Walton’s unique ability to read defenses, patiently take advantage of a good offensive line & sprint 40-50 yards? So, what does Freeman & HIS hirling offense coordiniator Mike Denbrock do with the kid against BYU? TEN snaps, TWO prime touches, & ONE bull rush for a TD. But for some inexplicable reason, Walton sat on the bench about 80% of the time. WASTED was THE LONG RANGE HOWITZER needed to worry & spread the BYU defense. Result: 28-24 ND loss, with game ending within Walton's spitting distance of BYU's end zone ... Will SOMEBODY please get a liberal judge in South Bend to issue a TRO against Freeman’s & Denbrock’s brain lock in not playing this standout MOST of the time? I tried. But being a diehard fan, yet not an ND alum, I was told by a defensive judicial clerk I lacked standing. Being Catholic & a graduate of a Chicago Catholic law school wasn’t enough. And the Walton fam is presumably too humble to take Coach to court.
Speaking of defenses, when is Freeman & his defenseless defensive coordinator, WHN, going to also stop stomping on their chances to win with their toothless “bend don’t break” mentality? Especially to start & end games? Where was the vaunted Irish pass rush vs BYU? Soft defenses have worked swell against ND’s Little Sisters of the Poor opponents, but not BYU. Nor will it work vs Miami on Nov. 7 as it failed miserably vs Ohio State in that national championship debacle. Someone. Even a shyster. Get a court order before Nov. 7 from a progressive judge in the Machine Democrats’ pocket.
