Mass Gov Gets the Picture, Begs Trump 4 Gas

As if struck by lightning, Mass Gov. & green groupie finally wrote to Trump “mia culpa” & begging for help as “Climate Reality Hits [out of gas] Massachusetts” in the rump…

As the WSJ op ed noted, “Democratic Gov. Maura Healey pleaded for more natural gas, quick,” even tho “while campaigning for Governor of Massachusetts four years ago,” she had “stopped two gas pipelines from coming into the state.” So, what changed her mind, the editors asked? Unforeseen by Healey & other environmental advocates, “several nuclear & coal plants in New England that provided reliable baseload power closed” so that natural gas made up half of New England’s power generation while solar & wind kicked in only 8% to meet folks’ needs. Telling citizens to turn the thermostat up or down in summer or winter wasn’t too cool & got taxpayers hot. Expensive gas imports & soaring energy bills further fueled the anger. Grid operators had warned solar wouldn’t fill the winter power gap because “snow, clouds & shortened daylight hours … [while] winter storms that limit solar power can also significantly limit the output of wind generation if high wind speeds force plant operators to shut down to protect equipment.

But never mind those "conservative deniers"? The reality of the state’s energy nightmare in real time described by the WSJ goes on, but we can get the picture. As the editors concluded, Gov. Healey finally also got the picture in asking the Trump Administration to somehow belatedly bail them out: She now “understands that soaring energy costs, fueled by anti-fossil-fuel follies, could give even liberal voters cold feet about the state’s unrealistic climate goals.”
