Shootings Need Something Beyond This World
Letter to Romans: Latest gun deaths in an Oregon school triggered the usual empty gun control demands. Did producer of “Big Bang Theory” hit the real target in suggesting today’s “new age BS” doesn’t grasp “societies who abandon God drift toward tyranny”?
As the Fox News coverage set the stage: “Hollywood’s Chuck Lorre, the creative force behind hit sitcoms such as ‘Two & a Half Men’ and ‘The Big Bang Theory,’” was recently discussing the importance of spirituality on Joe Rogan’s podcast. Lorre was being queried on his new memoir, in which he recalls his religious upbringing as a Jew, joining the Church of Scientology in his youth & eventually embracing Buddhism. Lorre, we’re told, “warned that worldly wealth & fame ultimately are not fulfilling & “it’s not the real solution” to the world’s problems. “You have to find something beyond this world,” he said. Lorre added he “regretfully” HAD to describe that solution as a “spiritual” one because he didn’t wish to be associated with ‘new age bulls---.”
We get it. Can we imagine the split-second moral dilemma faced by that “Hero dad who took down [the 16-year-old] Oregon school shooter” after killing a teacher & 3 children? The latest tragic shooting was met in the MSM & online with demands for more “gun control” measures, as if there weren’t many in place; or that the death of more kids was prevented by the happenstance of an armed dad being on the spot? There are undoubtedly others calling for better mental health practices and more stringent “deterrence” laws with stiffer penalties and/or surer incarceration of offenders. Yet might Lorre’s sage reminder that “solutions” to such evils might ultimately have more to do with society’s commitment to “something beyond this world”?
