Hallow Be Wahlberg Who Partners With App

Mark Wahlberg recently said he might leave Hollywood “sooner rather than later” as the Catholic actor launched a partnership with the Hallow app to provide exclusive content on his new film “Father Stu”. Coincidence? A match made in Heaven?

As Fox noted, “Father Stu” hit theaters Wednesday after 6 years in the making & is “based on the true story of Father Stuart Long, a boxer-turned-priest who died at 50 from a degenerative muscle disease. It’s the first faith-based movie Mr. Wahlberg has made (that, btw, accurately includes “F” bombs to which the Church had objected) & he put his own money into the production. “People need to have faith & hope,” Wahlberg said. “I just knew this movie … was my calling & mission. And, now, it’s needed more than ever.” Actually, the actor needed it, too. “It’s certainly a turning point in my life…I need to stop focusing so much on Mark & start doing much more work for God & less fortunate people.” It’s hardly a coincidence that Mell Gibson, director of “Passion of Christ,” co-stars.

For its part, Hallow is the Chicago-based start-up that is the most downloaded Catholic app. While the Wahlberg signing is the biggest one for Hallow, the app has partnered with a few other big-name actors, including Jonathan Roumi, who plays Jesus in “The Chosen.” To date, the app has over 2.5M downloads with 65M prayers logged for a 700% year-over-year growth in completed sessions. Hallow suggests one key to its success has been its appeal to other Christian denominations, Jews, Muslims and agnostics…who “use the app to find peace or grow deeper in their spirituality. It’s an Evangelical woman who is the most prolific user.
