ICE Agent Taught By Chicago PD’s Sgt Voight?

Letter to Romans: Hopefully, Chicago PD’s "dirty" Intelligence Sgt Hank Voight is NOT the “way it works” in either the Windy City or elsewhere. Case in point may be the ICE agent who’s charged with shooting a Minneapolis man, then lying about it ala Voight’s Chicago Way …

The WSJ’s editorial board didn’t mince words in concluding “Trump’s deportation surge into Minneapolis is looking worse all the time.” What caught the editors’ eye now was federal prosecutors “have accused an ICE agent in January of shooting through the front door of a home with two toddlers inside, hitting a migrant in the leg, and then lying about it to the FBI.” The DOJ’s indictment, if proven, is brutal: It alleges “ICE officer Christian Castro was pursuing a 26-yr-old Venezuelan man, who ran after being pulled over. As Mr. Castro tried to arrest him in a yard, a 24-yr-old Venezuelan man came to aid the escape. After ‘physical interaction’ of approximately 11 seconds,’ the migrants hurried into the house. ‘CASTRO [then] stood up, drew his service weapon & fired a single shot through the front door.” The second migrant was hit in the leg and the bullet ended up “lodged in the wall of the downstairs apartment.”

Agent Castro’s account as told to the FBI accused the two migrants as having attacked him “with a broom & snow shovel.” He maintained the trio fell, then, pounded one another on the ground outside the apartment. Only then, Castro insisted, did he fire his gun while still prone & as the assailants ran into the building. The indictment alleges “none of this is true.” Of course, Agent Castro will get his day in court to fight the dramatized accusations against him.  And he could very well have mostly been telling the truth about being set up and/or bushwacked. It’s been known/proven to have happened before. But, as the WSJ suggests, he’s not looking right now as a shining example to other ICE agents. Sgt Voight would especially be pissed about failing to cuff the suspect, having been blindsided by a shovel & broom or not.
