ICJ Committing Suicide via “Genocide” Stance?
Letter to Romans: Woe to you scribes & Pharisees of the International Court of Justice. You hypocrites. You blind guides strain at lowering the legal bar for judging “genocide” yet bear witness against yourselves by shielding those who murder the prophets …
That Biblically sums up the WSJ’s op ed, “Warning the International Court of Justice.” In journalistic lingo, the editors opined the “ICJ judge Yuji Iwasawa’s jaunt to New York belies the danger he’s courting.” Translated into political terms as VP Vance had earlier, the US is bent on the ICJ’s “dismantling.” And the President of the International Court of Justice, the WSJ now suggests, is one step from greasing the ICJ’s being sanctioned back to the hell it came from. That’s because Iwasawa had the audacity to advocate at the UN for the ICJ’s being “poised to lower the threshold for proving genocide” in a soon to be decided The Gambia v. Myanmar. Noted the editors: “Make no mistake, Myanmar is atop Mr. Iwasawa’s mind. Mike Waltz, the US Ambassador to the UN, made sure of that last week. The ICJ’s looming move, Mr. Waltz publicly argued, is being prepared in Myanmar ‘so that weakened & false [genocide] standard can later be weaponized against American & allied soldiers whenever they raise a finger against terrorists that hide behind civilians.’”
If it hadn’t been already, the WSJ concluded, “The [ICJ] is now on notice." Ambassador Waltz made the VP's threat doubly real: “As our actions against the ICC demonstrate,” he said, “we will not allow globalist, faux judges to weaponize the law against our troops, undermine our sovereignty, or put American lives at risk.” Already, on Oct. 9, the US had sanctioned the International Criminal Court, which also takes it upon itself to police the world as it sees fit. Both courts are headquartered in The Hague, and the US has not recognized either’s jurisdiction. The US ambassador obviously suggests that’s partly because both are in league with the international left to handcuff Western policy. That cynical strategy is surely not playing well before Pilate in Washington, DC, so the unrepentant ICJ seems to be headed for a date on Calvary.
