Voters to Feast on Mid-Term Banquet
Letter to Ephesians: Victims of the world & Social Justice warriors might ask Jesus for guidance on addressing individual & institutional brutes at election time. Christ’s “banquet” parable might give EVERYONE a surprising answer for Nov. 3 …
I happened to read this passage as part of my daily Bible study. Then, I launched into my usual search for the latest MSM stories published & social media news posted. With election day nearing, the usual last-minute jockeying among the candidates for the voters’ attention seemed particularly manic this year. In making his closing argument in the race to become Michigan’s US Senator, for instance, Democrat Abdul El-Sayed was still insisting he’s a victim of “Islamophobia” & more of a Yankee Doodle Dandy than George M. Cohan ever was; and his Republican opponent, Mike Rogers, argued HE was the better man to replace retiring US Senator Gary Peters because he narrowly lost the race for the Senate in 2024.
Yet, considering how these & many other candidates are reminding us how much the world stinks nowadays, I wondered how Jesus Christ might cast HIS vote … in Michigan & elsewhere ... with an eye toward righting all the wrongs by entrusting the true problem solvers. It was while reading Luke 14 that the plank in my own eye seemed to pop out: “When you are invited by someone to a wedding banquet, do not recline at table in the place of honor. A more distinguished guest than you may have been invited by him & the host who invited both of you may say, ‘Give your place to this man,’ and then you would proceed with embarrassment to take the lowest place. Rather, when you are invited, go & take the lowest place so that when the host comes to you, he may say, ‘My friend, move up to a higher position …’ For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”
