Baby Step To Win Win For US & Illegals?

Letter to Ephesians: Few agree on how to “solve” the illegal alien dilemma & whether to provide any path to citizenship for the millions here by jumping the line set by law. But since polls suggest most Americans don’t want to immediately “deport them all” here’s one way how to begin to assuage the hurting ...
Start by punting on the issue of “blanket amnesty.” Congress can address that black hole over the usual peanuts & cocktails. Then, consider one or more of the following “prerequisites” for giving those illegals (who do not want to self-deport) a “provisional path to staying here” legally:
-- Come clean. Admit to illegal status with immigration authorities in return for a “no action pending review” letter.
-- Simultaneously and without any guarantees of success, apply for refugee, asylum or permanent residence (green card) status, with a supported explanation of how granting continued presence in US is beneficial to the country and an assurance that no local, state or federal felony law has been/will be committed here or in their native land, including the fraudulent procurement of taxpayer-funded benefits.
The incentive for illegals of course is that the no action letter would buy them significant time to plan their lives without looking over their shoulder every time they went to work, church or school. If it turns out the no action application is denied & deportation is ordered, the person would be provided free transportation & still be able to seek legal entry at a later date, as in the case of the self-deportation offer made earlier this year. Hopefully, such repentant folks will get their chance to stay in the US with the goal of one day also thriving financially here, assimilating peacefully in a “win-win” process, and becoming US citizens. Unrealistic to expect Congress to pass the necessary enabling legislation? Too much of a roll of the dice for illegals to bite even if it does? Or would such a baby step at least fly in many instances, at least, enough to try?
