Can Feted Harry & Meghan Really Say “We Earned It”?

The Brit press slammed tone-deaf Harry & Meghan’s NY Trip for couple’s chutzpah or hypocrisy or both?

The Daily Mail was kind of petty perhaps in criticizing Markle’s opulent jewelry she wore to a charitable event, but maybe The Scottish Sun was more on point in suggesting the Duke & Duchess were “embarrassing” for treating the tour as if still royals living in the family castle. Ah, there’s the rub? The couple rejected the responsibilities of the Royal Family yet act (and make money) as if they still had them?

In watching Emmy winning The Crown, one can empathize with the younger generation’s desire to live their lives on their own terms rather than ancient & unbending custom. Yet, one would have more sympathy perhaps, if those rejecting the system showed the courage of their convictions by rejecting the inherent advantages of their heritage and REALLY made their living the new rather than the old fashioned way. That is, as Smith Barney’s old fart used to say, “They earn(ed) it.”
