Can Hollywood Celebs Handle the TRUTH?

Letter to Romans: Re-watching “A Few Good Men,” I admit Jack Nicholson put in an all-time powerful performance climaxing in the “You can’t handle the truth” scene. Can Democrat JACK handle it after daughter published exposé of unmitigated Hollywood hypocrisy?
Maybe he CAN. To be fair, the carefully developed persona of an ever-cynical Nicholson who’s a hard assed progressive on the screen as well as in his personal life should be colored with his past support for free speech & gun rights. Granted, Nicholson was an open supporter of Bill Clinton, but he seemed to have learned his lesson in staying more low-key publicly on politics since, other than in voting for Obama or Biden. It may be fairer to depict the complex actor’s track record as an anti-authoritarian purest. And, if so, maybe Jack’s more “pure” on the hypocrisy front than many might think.
Thinking of which, the iconic actor’s personality may fit right in with the recent Fox News story titled, “Jack Nicholson’s daughter calls out Hollywood’s status-chasing elite in scathing new essay about modern LA.” Lorraine, 36, is also an actress who’s essay in W Magazine brutally satirized Hollywood clout chasers & what it means to be “somebody” among the supposedly “rich and famous.” Just one quote: “It means that even if your latest blockbuster fails to perform & regardless of whether you have a spot on the lot, you will always be treated with respect. It’s no wonder, then, that LA has established itself as the status-anxiety capital of the world, a city where people will chase clout to the grave.” Ouch! Reading THAT was like Dad telling young Marine lawyer Tom Cruise on cross-examination after demanding "The Truth!": “You want answers? Son, we live in a world that has walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with guns. Who’s gonna do it? You? … You WANT me on that wall. You NEED me on that wall.” Maybe. And maybe, as Lorraine suggests, we don’t need those hypocritical Hollywood celebs on our TV screens as much as we thought.
