DOGE Recission Cuts Sent to Pork Chop Hill

Letter to Ephesians: Musk & other Trumpanomic maniacs frustrated over the lack of DOGE cuts in “One Big Beautiful Bill" got a back rub Tuesday when a separate rescission bill to enact some of them was sent to Congress to appease Senate rules. But will the mini-pork chop cut enough fat out of the pig?
As reported by the WSJ, “The White House is sending Congress a $9.4 billion rescissions package ... that would codify some spending cuts made by the Trump administration, effectively having lawmakers reverse spending they previously voted into law.” The package includes reductions to NPR, PBS & foreign aid. Also being considered, we’re told, is the use of another separate and even more controversial process called “impoundment” to claw back other earmarked funds, e.g. $500K for electric buses in Rwanda, deemed unworthy by Musk’s DOGE. In that case, the WSJ notes, the WH could “sidestep” Congress, but risk “a likely legal battle.
But, perhaps the bigger question is whether all the above attempts to help control the national debt will be enough to garner enough conservative votes in the Senate, now considering the House version of the Big Beautiful Bill, & now the Mini-Recission Pork Chop. The GOP narrowly controls both the House & Senate & only a majority is needed to enact either; yet, several Republican Senators are balking unless more cuts are included. They’ll likely call out the fact that the $9.4 billion of DOGE cuts to be codified are only a fraction of the $175 billion DOGE claims to have saved or recommended.
