Hardly a day goes by without a news story on Netflix’s dystopian “Squid Game”, but no surprise Kim Jong Un’s propagandists are trashing the series for its vile portrayal of murderous Deep State characters. One suspects the Hermit Nation’s apologists saw their brutal leader & fawning selves in what’s showing up on the screen, albeit in Seoul.
Oh, the South Korean writer doesn’t call out North Korea by name & took care to show the “Hunger Games” themed story took place south of the 38th parallel. And, that creator recently said he got “inspired” to write the dramatic series when a conservative “Trump got elected” in the US (although he earlier said he’d been trying to sell the overriding violent story line since the progressive Obama days). Wonder: Did he also foresee a mandate-crazy Joe would become POTUS?
As Fox News says, Squid Game is the “top-watched show in more than 90 countries.” So, a North Korean propaganda website, Arirang Meari, dutifully reported the show highlights the “sad reality of a beastly South Korean society” that adheres to the “capitalists … law of the jungle … a hell-like horror” where “only money matters.” Well, we can agree on one thing. That North Korean take could be applied to the DC Swamp & Squid Game could easily have been based in a dystopian Foggy Bottom where folks aka squids get squished daily by the all-mighty buck.
