Patriot Winsome Is Winsome In Gunning 4 Va Lt Gov

Virginia’s new Lt. Gov. Winsome Sears, who is to be the first woman of color to be elected to that state-wide post, assured a national tv audience in her victory speech early Wednesday morn: “I’m telling you that what you are looking at is the American dream.” It was a winsome as well as patriotic theme she delivered while leading the crowd’s chant of “USA!”

Born in Jamaica, the Marine veteran minced no words in saying how proud she was of her adopted country that “lifted my father … out of poverty when he came here in 1953, then, gave me the opportunity” to do the same. “When I joined the Marine Corps, I was still a Jamaican. But this country had done so much for me, I was willing, WILLING, to die for this country.” Ms. Winsome would go on to own an appliance store & become director of a Salvation Army homeless shelter before entering politics to share her good fortune with others. She cut her political teeth by serving as vice president of the Virginia Board of Education and served one term a Virginia’s House of Delegates.

On Fox & Friends, Ms. Winsome attributed her unlikely win to a “God thing,” having run her 2021 campaign with a “ragtag staff you know, very little money, outspent [and] outgunned, if you will,” in reference to not only her military background but to a viral photo of her holding an AR-15 rifle while at a local shooting range earlier this year. “What we are going to do now is be about the business of the Commonwealth,” she said. “We have things to tend to. We are going to fully fund our historically Black colleges and universities. We’re going to have safer neighborhoods, safer communities, and our children are going to get a good education.”
