Wineries Gagging on Souring Grapes Sales

Letter to Ephesians: A “bloodbath” has hit the nation’s wineries as millennials & boomers opt for fizzy waters as well as infused drinks instead … or more kiss-off alcohol entirely. Latest health concerns over even casual drinking aren’t helping.

As the Fox News coverage noted, “America’s wine industry is grappling with one of its most painful downturns in decades as younger consumers cut back on drinking & baby boomers age out of the market – reshaping alcohol habits nationwide.” The result has been a $1 billion hit to revenue last year and a 6 million-case drop in production. It’s gotten so bad, the New York Post reported, major as well as family-run wineries are shuttering, laying off workers or “ripping vineyards out of the ground amid oversupply & failing demand.” Some traditionally popular California brands are even taking a bath, including E&J Gallo, Jackson Family and Mission Bell. Forbes said at least 20% of California’s wine grape production wasn’t harvested in 2025. It’s a bloodbath for all grape growers across California, said Stuart Spencer, executive director of the Lodi Wine grape Commission … It is the worst market condition growers have seen in their lifetime.”

Not so long ago, and especially when the Wuhan Flu pandemic literally drove more people to drink to forget their masked & mandated woes, wine drinking had rocketed skyward. But that was then. As Fox noted, “a recent Gallup poll shows the share of US adults who drink alcohol has fallen to 54%, the lowest level in decades. It reverses the pandemic mentality and “reflects growing health concerns about even moderate drinking.
