Is There a Case for Lazy Mail In Voting w/o ID?

Letter to Ephesians: Dems insist there’s no proof of mail in voting fraud yet there’s a “major fraud vector” by comparing a huge inflation in mailed ballots in POTUS elections - 15M in 2004, 70M in ‘20 & 49M in ‘24. Weren’t there reasons mailed balloting had been strictly limited?
The reason no excuse, no voter ID mail in voting was rare until recently, is as obvious now as it’s always been: It invites if not encourages fraud by highly motivated partisans. With or without definitive proof as in a court of law, "perceptions matter" to an elected government's credibilty. Ask Central America. Recall how even “absentee voting” in the US was allowed via the mail system only for “hardship.” Even in Civil War, absentee voting was only temporarily granted to northern soldiers who were fighting on the battle front during elections. For the next century, absentee voting was severely limited to such reasons as military service, disability & overseas travel and even then, sworn declarations and/or other documented proof of ID was required. COVID changed all of that, especially as blue controlled states & cities grossly expanded the concept & allowed for EVERYONE to mail in a vote for any reason & usually with “relaxed” documented proof of ID. While red states eventually rolled back their relaxed pandemic mail in rules, the blue states doubled down & some even reinforced them since. Any wonder, then, there were 33 million mailed in votes cast in the 2016 election, 70 million in 2020 and 49 million in 2024?
Granted, fraud is hard to prove or disprove in our uniquely tough legal system. Yet, our Rule of Law is largely based on our common sense. So, isn’t the bottom line this: If the Democrats are right in arguing “there’s never been proof of widespread voter fraud” what’s their proof that simply requiring one’s presence to vote, except for the traditional hardship reasons, has always kept folks who want to vote from voting? Moreover, as Democratic Senator John Fetterman recently asked his colleagues, “what’s wrong with requiring proof of ID” when voting as well? Put another way, how lazy if not fraudulent does a potential voter need to get before they knowingly waive their right to vote?
